Android is a Linux based O.S designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets computers . Intialy developed by Android,Inc..which  Google backed financially and later brought in 2005. Android has unveiled in 2007 along with founding of open handset alliance:a consortium
of hardware,software and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.
First Android powered phone was sold in october 2008.
Android is a open source and google releases the code under Apache license.
Android has large community of developers writing applications that extend the functionality of devices written primarily in customized version of Java programming language.
Android is the worlds most widely used smart phone platform overtaking the symbian in fourth quater 0f 2010 and the software of choice for technology companies who require a low cost,customizable,light weight O.S for high tech devices without developing one from scratch.

5)Streaming  media support: RTP/RTSP streaming ,HTML progressive download ,Adobe flash streaming and HTTP dynamic streaming are supported flash player.
