Malala Yousafzai

MALALA YOUSAFZAI

(Pakistani teenager among top ''NOBLE PEACE PRIZE'' contenders)

There are several good reasons why this year's noble prize should be awarded to teenaged Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzi. The petition endorsing her nomination has already received support from an illustrious list of global personalities including Canadian Prime minister Stephen Harper. That apart, Malala has emerged as a champion of literacy and girl child education is extraordinary circumstances. It is the fact that needs to be recognized through the award.

Shot by Taliban gunmen in her native Pakistan for daring to attend school, Malala's life story stands out as a symbol of bravery and conviction like no other. She first provided evidence of the activist in her when she was invited to write a blog about life under Taliban for BBC in 2009.Highlighting her plight to obtain an education in regressive environment, she instantly came to represent struggles of girl child in the developing world.

True, other nominees for this year's Noble prize may have better record of effecting tangible changes on the ground. But Noble is also awarded to promote the ideas and shape policies.

There is no denying that Malala Yousafzai is a brave girl, but conferring a Noble prize on a 16 year old would be premature on the part of the committee that bestows the honour.

Malala is indeed an icon of hope and courage for girls and women.Malala has already been honoured with several recognitions including Harvard Universities humanitarian award 2013 and the Tipperary International peace award.

She will be worthy of Noble prize when her courage will tangibly improve the lives of fellow women in Pakistan and rest of the world in the years to come.
